Creative Process by Carol Ann Howell

The creative process needs input. We must make something out of nothing. We have an empty page, an empty space, and we must take something of ourselves to birth a new entity. That takes a lot of ego-strength. We need someone to cheer us on when we run out of steam. In Spanish they call it apoyo. We need that support in our lives as a whole, to help us to be the best we can. Without apoyo we whither. You can be be a self-starter only so long until you begin to run on minus.

But with apoyo, you can create anything! You never run out of ideas! I say that writing is so easy for me it is like water flowing. And with encouragement, it gushes and more makes more!

Hello all of my creative friends who are out there on the web and looking for ways to help jump-start those ideas for you artwork. I have read creativity books and have always been interested in how a person cultivates a creative soul. So I am planning, if life doesn't get in the way to give a creative tip each to stir up your inspiration.

Let's get started with our first creative tip for the week!

-Go through your stack of magazines and pull out photos that interest you. (I love to use National Geographic since the photos are so cool.) I want you to start keeping file folders of images. People, animals, buildings, artwork, landscapes, and other topics you can think of.

Lost

Sorry I have been out of the loop. It seems these last few months have flown by and my life has been disrupted by renovating my condo and having to live out of my art studio. Sleeping on an air mattress will crush all creativity and energy after a couple of nights!!! We are in the process of painting the walls and I hope to back in the condo by mid July...or my husband is going to leave me. (he has been such a trooper living at the studio....without ESPN for a month.)

cheers,
susan :>

Hand Me a Wrench by Virginia Spiegel

Image:

Perhaps you are one of those people whose thoughts float through your brain in a gentle flow, causing you no distress, allowing you to proceed through your day on a current of peace and contentment. How I envy you, I think.

My brain seems stuffed full of thoughts like a raging torrent pouring over the dam in a dangerous, glittering, falling cascade. It is as though the keeper of the dam, the calm and silent figure who stands by with a wrench that perfectly fits the giant cog wheels that close the dam gates, decided to go out for a sandwich, then had to have a cup of coffee and then, hey, it’s only fifteen minutes until the end of the shift, went on home and forgot to return. Where the wrench went is anybody's guess.

Free E-book

I am compiling ideas and inspirations for creativity sparks from readers and artists that I know for the e-book. I will let you know when the e-book is ready to download. :)

If you would like to write a short article about creativity and talk about your work please let me know. Also please send me creative ideas to my email sorrell@creativechick.com with your name and website. :)

Hello

Hi to all of my friends!

I wanted to do something a little different and this form of posting articles about a subject you love seemed like a great fit. I was approached by the owners of Tipzu about doing articles on art, when they discovered my website. I have been really busy planning and putting together new online classes until recently. I really wanted to sit down and think of what I wanted to do with this type of website.

Who is Susan Sorrell?

I am a fiber/mixed media artist living in Greenville, SC. I have a website www.creativechick.com and I teach online classes. I have been an artist since 1983 and love reading about creativity and other artists. I am married to John DeLeon and I have one fur child, whoopi doodle.

Starting my site today

The blog is an optional feature where you can write about your experience in starting and running the business. Don't use it as a place for articles (keep those in the articles), but you might want to write more personal things here (related to the Tipzine, of course), to build a rapport with your readers.

What is a "Tipzdigger"?

A Tipzdiggger is someone who digs my tips! It's also a community of people who share our passion. Soon, you'll be able to join, create groups, discuss, rate my articles, make your own posts, and lots more.
